Collaboration/Environmental Scan/Needs Assessment
- Session feedback and ongoing needs assessment.
- ERLC board.
- ATA Specialist Council “SLIC”.
- Consult with CASLT organizing committee and the EPS institute for innovation in second languages.
- ERLC advisory committee consultation Appendix B.
- Consultation with key Alberta Education Lead Managers and Directors a minimum of twice during the year.

Practice/Goals
- Support language competency.
- Support understanding of cultural and intercultural awareness.
- Regional Goals specific to work of ERLC (i.e. Program of Studies, Instruction and Assessment).

Identify Possible Strategies
- Learning opportunities based on advisory committee input as well as Alberta Education advice.
- E.g., 9 year international language curriculum.
- Video Conferencing for the Language Classroom Teacher.
- Specific language pieces such as Spanish Hola Amigos.
- Common European Framework of Reference for languages.
- Proposal from Ukrainian Language Education Centre related to intercultural skills.
- Manage the FSL assessment pd resource project and support the delivery of these sessions throughout Alberta.
- Continued support for 9 year FSL program.

- Use program feedback form as primary measure.
- Sessions are attended.

- Budget $15,000.00 as well as infrastructure support provided from grant.
- Funds available from separate grants.

- Impetus for implementation changed based on provincial initiative being reduced.

- Districts that have advocates for second languages interested. Many districts are addressing other priorities and unable to focus on this area as well.

- Partnerships with CASLT and IISLE are mutually beneficial and model “partners in adult learning for students’ sake”.
