Looking to improve your students’ writing? Join author and educator, Karen Filewych -- How Do I Get Them To Write? and Freewriting With Purpose -- for this empowering three-part series. Leave each session with practical ideas to give you the confidence you need to teach your students to write with both clarity and artistry. Teachers and students will begin to welcome their writing time!

September  21st: How Do I Get Them to Write?

Do you have reluctant writers in your midst? Any perfectionists? Learn how to engage and empower your students to write. In this session Karen will demonstrate how to create a community of writers, establish a growth mindset, and engage your students in the process of freewriting to accomplish many of our curricular outcomes.

September 28th: They’re writing… now what?

How do we teach (and motivate) our students to revise and edit their writing? Learn how to use mini-lessons and mentor texts to target specific skills and how to effectively work through the writing process with your students. Ensure you are teaching your students to write, rather than simply assigning written tasks.

October 5th: Leveraging Feedback to Improve Student Writing

How do we provide authentic, meaningful feedback to our student writers? How do we teach our students to give effective feedback to each other? This session will focus on various forms of feedback including timely, targeted comments; feedback frames; and single point rubrics. We will also discuss how to empower our students’ voices and scaffold feedback through the creation of writing groups.
