This session will begin with a brief overview about some of the underlying principles guiding the design of standardized tests and the challenges these principles present to classroom teachers.  Following this overview, the session will focus on an examination of the writing assignments for both Social Studies 30-1 and Social Studies 30-2.  Participants will complete several hands-on activities to immerse themselves in a simulation of the processes that are used to select example papers that are used to demonstrate to teachers and students the standards expected for student work at the various levels of achievement (e.g. “Excellent” “Satisfactory” etc.).

The session will also provide information on how to best prepare students for the Social Studies Diploma Exams and useful resources teachers and students can utilize in examination preparation.  The day will close with a general “Q and A”.

All learning opportunities with the ERLC regional team will focus on the Alberta Education and district priority areas.
