"The process of co-constructing criteria assists learners to understand and use the language of assessment to self-regulate and to self-monitor" (Davies and Herbst, 2014).

Teachers co-construct criteria with their students so that they can come to more deeply understand what quality is and what is expected of them.  At the same time, criteria serve as the foundation for:

  • feedback that feeds the learning forward,
  • engaging students in collecting evidence of their learning, and
  • setting reasonable 'next-step' goals

These are actions that lead to increased resilience.

In this session, Dr. Anne Davies and Sandra Herbst will share classroom-based accounts, examples, and student work that will help you make connections to your own assessment and instructional practices, given changing contexts.

All learning opportuninites with the ERLC regional team will focus on the Alberta Education and district priority areas.
