Writing for academic purposes is a key factor to academic success.  This skill requires points and arguments to be organized in a logical manner with clear language and transitions.  The structures writers use, however, are not always apparent to our linguistically and culturally diverse learners.

This interactive session will give a brief overview of the second language acquisition process and its connection to the Alberta K-12 ESL Proficiency Benchmarks, as well as a process for scaffolding writing instruction that can be used by all content teachers to make invisible structures visible.  We will also look at a strategy for students to create their own questions to write about.

All learning opportunities with the ERLC regional team will focus on the Alberta Education and district priority areas.
