Helping teachers see mathematics through the eyes of a learner…

Are you looking for a practical framework with which to diagnose, teach, and monitor students' progress in mathematics development?  Do you want a way to report this information to school systems, parents, and the wider community?  First Steps in Mathematics is a professional development resource that can fulfill these needs by enabling you to successfully link learning, instruction, and assessment. In addition, it gives a school division and/or schools a common language with which to describe student progress and a new professional dialogue around analyzing and addressing student needs.   The resource is the product of an extensive review of all available international research and thousands of student work samples.  First Steps in Mathematics enables teachers to assess and monitor their students' mathematics progress, and provides links to developmentally appropriate teaching strategies and learning activities.

We are offering the original 3-day workshop in First Steps in Math over 10 sessions after school for all educators in Gr 2-9 as well as 7 afternoon sessions. To register for the 7-day afternoon series, please visit: https://erlc.ca/programs/details.php?id=9366

You should be able to attend all 10 days as you will be using material from the assigned tasks that you will be asked to administer to your students. As a result of you using the answers from your own students you will be able to identify possible instructional next steps in your classroom.
