Did you know early math skills are one of the best predictors of later success in both math and numeracy?  We need to help our students build that strong foundation early.  There are a number of great tools we can use in the classroom to develop students' number sense and additive thinking.  We will unpack numbers, looking at children's misconceptions and hurdles, and will introduce games, investigations, Ten-Frames, Rekenrek, Dot cards and instructional approaches that help build children's foundational understandings in numeracy.  During this session, we will explore a variety of ways to introduce and use these tools effectively in the classroom.  What do kids need to know about number sense in order to work with it fluently and easily?  We will also work with basic fact strategies.

You will walk away with resources and strategies you can use with the student you work with right away.

All learning opportunities with the ERLC regional team will focus on the Alberta Education and district priority areas.
