During the past nine months, system and school leaders across Alberta have worked incredibly hard to manage the issues related to COVID:  meeting AHS/district requirements, recess, entry and exit schedules, PPEs, contact tracing, wellness, communicating with parents - the list goes on!  As a leader, the focus on managing COVID challenges was and still is absolutely necessary.  And the great news is that leaders have successfully met these challenges!  As we move forward into a new year, we now need to consider the long term implications for supporting teaching and learning in an online, blended and/or face to face environment.

  • What opportunities does the pandemic create for us to enhance our leadership and better navigate the current situation?
  • What have we learned about how to lead teachers in creating conditions for effective teaching that results in deep student engagement and learning - whether it is online, or face to face or a combination?
  • How can leaders apply their successful leadership skills from before the pandemic to the current situation and the remainder of the school year?
  • What needs to change?
  • What should stay the same?
  • How does a leader know whether their students - in an online, blended and/or face to face environment - are engaged and learning?

As a leader, you are most likely grappling with these questions.  Do you wish you could talk to other leaders who have experienced success, and are leveraging lessons learned from the pandemic?   Now is your chance!  ERLC has put together an amazing panel of leaders from four different districts, who have successfully led their learning community to a place of deep learning and have successfully addressed important areas such as pedagogy, assessment, instruction, and supervision - online, blended and face to face.  The panel will share what effective leadership looks like and how leaders may or may not adjust their leadership, when leading different learning environments.  This session will begin with a short presentation from each leader.  Their presentations will address the questions above, as well as share practical tips, tricks, what works, what doesn’t work, tools, and shifts in their thinking when leading teachers, students and parents in an online, blended and/or face to face learning environment.   Following their presentations, you will have the opportunity to ask questions of one of our panel members through small group breakout discussions. This will also be an opportunity for you to share your own tips and tricks related to online learning.
