This “Beauty of Coping” workshop will look at a variety of meaningful coping strategies to to help ourselves as care-givers navigate the stressors that life brings our way. Especially in this age of COVID, deepening our understanding and practice of intentional coping strategies has never been more timely. We will be using a Dialectical Behavior Therapeutic model known as “ACCEPTS” to dive into some of these very practical and proven coping tools. The focus of ACCEPTS is seeing coping as a means of distress tolerance as opposed to distress avoidance. Our sources of stress cannot always be avoided, removed or adapted, we sometimes need to find healthy ways to accept and cope with all the various stressors that currently exist or may come up in the future. The key learning take-away from this workshop, in its most basic premise, is to build a toolbox of ideas to help ourselves and also possibly help our students cope with the various forms and sources of discomfort and stress in our lives.
