When school board personnel are asked about the challenges affecting the hiring of French Immersion teachers, there is almost always a discussion about a shortage of teachers with adequate linguistic and cultural competencies. In order to retain FSL teachers and help teaching candidates maintain and advance their linguistic, cultural and pedagogical qualifications, they require access to professional development opportunities. As a principal what can you do to support the language proficiency development of your FI teachers?
Key topics:
- Promoting the value of FI program
- Offering PD opportunities for your FI teachers
- Supporting outside FI cultural activities
