It can be a challenge to actively engage students in meaningful learning within an online learning environment.  One way is through Project Based Learning - proven to be successful in both face to face classrooms as well as through an online learning environment.  Students who are involved in project based learning (PBL), solve complex problems that require both fundamental skills (reading, writing, and math) and 21st century skills (problem solving, research gathering, time management, information synthesizing, utilizing high tech tools). Through PBL, students become directors and managers of their learning - critically important in an online learning environment -  guided and mentored by the teacher.  How can teachers engage students in authentic and relevant project based learning in an online or blended learning environment?  This three part series will share key ideas and concrete tools to get you and your students started.  Join us to learn about: 

• key components of PBL in an online environment; 
• creating meaningful student group options and interdependent online student structures;
• boosting student success in completing projects (eg. phases for PBL);
• assessing PBL, including what to assess;
• creating equity for all students (resources, time, opportunity, etc.); and
• communicating with parents to help them understand and support their child’s PBL
