The workshop model in secondary classrooms is based on the ideas of differentiation, student choice, engagement, and interest. In Reader’s Workshop, students are provided support to choose texts, time to read in class, and ways to share their understanding. This is an effective model for engaging students, and helping them grow as readers. In this session, learn how to implement a workshop model in your ELA classes and how it can either support or replace a whole-class novel study . Participants will discuss solutions to potential challenges, strategies for assessment, and titles of quality texts for adolescents.
