Trevor Bryan will share his approach to using illustrations and other forms of artwork to help students engage with comprehension and meaning-making skills. Trevor's approach is rooted in the idea that visual texts may be easier to decode than written texts on a surface level but can reveal complex ideas that require the same comprehension skills to make meaning as written texts require. Because of the accessibility of visual texts, most students, including striving readers and non-readers, can explore and discuss these texts deeply and meaningfully, engaging with the skills necessary for strong comprehension and conversation. Trevor will also share how this approach to viewing and reading texts can help students to develop visual literacy comprehension skills and to craft written texts that translate visual texts accurately and adeptly.

Susan Woo will be facilitating this pre-recorded webinar with attending participants with learning activities co-created with Trevor Bryan.

Copies of Trevor's book The Art of Comprehension will be available for purchase at the additional cost of $40.00. Only cash payment will be accepted.
