Literacy 3-Day Series are intentionally designed to deepen your understanding in a focus area for literacy. Research indicates that the most effective professional occurs when the learning:

  • is sustained over a duration to allow time to learn, practice, implement and reflect
  • has opportunities for collaboration and feedback
  • is applied towards action research in which teachers participate in a structured process of inquiry to improve or refine their instructional practice

It is highly recommended that participants  register for all three sessions in the series to fully engage in a cycle of action research towards developing a deeper understanding of how specific research-based pedagogical approaches can positively impact student learning.

This series is intended for beginning teachers and for those who are new to teaching grades 1-6. It is intended to further teachers’ understanding of the foundational literacy principles that support classroom practices and reflective processes for elementary literacy instruction. We will explore how to use a critical lens in developing and implementing teaching and learning strategies, activities and resources.

Key features of the series will include:

  • Creating a Balanced and Integrated Overarching Framework for Teaching Language Arts
  • Organizing for Learning and Instruction – Making the Most of Your Space
  • Using Children’s Literature as the Primary Resource for Teaching and Learning in Language Arts
  • Highlighting Multimodal Literacy in the Language Arts
  • Identifying Essential Components of a Language and Literacy Program
  • Teaching the Necessary Skills and Strategies Students Need to Enjoy Reading and to Become Competent Readers and Writers
  • Exploring Cross-Curricular Connections
