AllThe SELLELA community of practice originated from a group of high school ELA and ESL teachers who met to identify and target areas to support English language learners. The goals of SELLELA include opportunities for:
- Source of support (ideas, resources, processes) for differentiated practice
- Development/co-creation of resources for teachers to immediately use in the high school ELA and/or ESL classroom
- Shared leadership model to enhance teacher capacity
- Source of advocacy to highlight the need for supporting English language learners
- Horizontal alignment across high schools to promote consistency (assessment, processes, resources, etc.)
This opportunity is open for both high school ELA and/or ESL teachers to collaborate! This session will focus on creation of resources to support the following identified areas: tier two (academic) and three (subject-specific) vocabulary, writing, reading comprehension, activation of metacognition, and annotation. Participants will choose one focus area to co-create resources for, and will also have access to all materials SELLELA generates within this session. Bring your ideas and enthusiasm to this free community of practice to support high school English language learners!
