Keith Van De Keere is a strong advocate for continued improvement of math education. He sees numeracy as an essential part of all education discussions. He works primarily with K - 9 teachers where he facilitates workshops, assists lesson and unit planning, and does team teaching and lesson demos.
Keith asks teachers to provide student-focused education within a community of learners. This requires teachers to become better “kid watchers”, to ask better questions, in order to find what students really understand, and then to respond accordingly.
He also believes that when math teaching is focused on deep understanding of the big ideas, students have a better chance of experiencing enduring success and, teachers can better see the natural flow between teaching and assessment.
