The Alberta K-12 Proficiency Benchmarks are a useful tool that teachers can use to assess students’ English language proficiency. Understanding the Benchmarks will not only help teachers plan effectively for the English Language Learners (ELL) in their class but also provide teachers with essential knowledge on how students acquire a second language.

In the morning of this interactive session, you will explore the Benchmarks in depth and discuss strategies for efficiently and effectively Benchmarking ELLs.

In the afternoon,  you will have the opportunity to explore a plethora of resources to help support ELLs as well as begin to develop a plan for integrating the strategies discussed into your current practice.
