Secondary teachers are seeing more and more English Language Learners in their classes. Whether in a Biology 30 class or Math 8 class, adapting and/or scaffolding materials makes the content more accessible for those students who are not only learning the information, but also having to apply it and demonstrate understanding with reduced language skills.
This collaborative session will explore practical strategies that help secondary teachers present information to English Language Learners without breaking up the flow of instruction for the rest of the class. Favourite resources and online tools will be shared.
Participants are asked to bring a current learning task and/or assessment they would like to modify as well as any tools and resources they, too, have found helpful for supporting English Language Learners.
