How can we inclusively and collaboratively plan for and respond to the diversity in today’s elementary classrooms?
Join us for 3 full days with 1/2 day investigating frameworks & strategies and 1/2 day to collaboratively plan/ engage in collaborative activities.
Session 1 - Redefining Inclusion - Debunking the Myths!
Targeted Principles: Anticipate, value and support diversity and learner differences, Reduce barriers within learning environments, and Capacity building
Collaborative Activities: Participants will be guided through various collaborative and inquiry based activities including; asking questions connected to inclusive principles, team goal setting around the inclusion principles and creating a plan for action leading into future sessions together.
Session 2 - Getting to Know our Learners
Targeted Principles: Understand learners’ strengths and needs, Reduce barriers within learning environment and Shared responsibility
Targeted Frameworks/Strategies: Class Profiles, Student Profiles, Response to Intervention (RTI), Strength Based Learning
Collaborative Activities: Participants will have the opportunity to share what they have tried since the last session and build on their action plans. Collaboratively, teams will be able to reflect on and adjust their action plans and start to collect evidence of their inquiry leading into future sessions.
Session 3 - Designing Inclusive Goals & Assessment for Diverse Classrooms
Targeted Principles: High expectations for all learners and Capacity building
Targeted Frameworks/Strategies: Backwards Design, Planning Pyramid, Universal Design, Modifying curriculum, Competency Planning, Inquiry
Collaborative Activities: Building on the previous two sessions, teams will get time to reflect on their inquiries. Participants will also share out their learnings about the series and present their inquiries and what they noticed in their classrooms with others.
