Corrie Ziegler has been an educator for over 36 years and prior to joining Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium, she worked as a teacher, principal, supervisor and director with Edmonton Public Schools. She has led AISI projects, managed teams, and has facilitated numerous sessions on a broad spectrum of topics related to teaching and learning. Corrie believes in the power of collaboration and has coached numerous learning communities in working together to achieve high levels of engagement and learning for all students.

AllThe Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium (ERLC) will once again facilitate a Community of Practice for principals and assistant principals during the 2017/18 school year. We have an amazing group of schools lined up again this year, as well as a session with Sandra Herbst, well known and well respected assessment expert who will focus on how leaders can implement and support effective assessment practices in their school.
School Leaders will meet throughout the year to engage in authentic, relevant and meaningful professional learning that includes: visits to 4 Edmonton area schools to view exemplary leadership in action, facilitated opportunities for professional dialogue, opportunities to build relationships and new networks, and processes for reflection. Steven Katz's latest book, The Intelligent, Responsive Leader, will be provided and will inform our professional conversations.
Details
- The series will begin with a half day orientation session in October, followed up with four half-day visits to Edmonton area schools (a combination of elementary, junior high, and high schools).
- At each school, you will engage in a variety of processes and activities, such as: dialogue/Q&A with the host principal; tour of the school; connect to the competencies in the draft LQS; review current literature and research; connect observations to Katz's book, share artifacts, discuss/reflect on your implementation of the ideas shared.
- Each visit will highlight/focus on 1 - 2 of the leadership competencies outlined in the draft LQS. You will have the opportunity to observe how the competencies outlined in Alberta Education’s draft Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) are “lived” in today’s schools.
- Connect the LQS to the A Guide to Support Implementation: Essential Conditions As part of this series, you will be asked to implement at least one idea/strategy in your school between visits, and share your experience in that implementation at the next school visit.
- The last school visit will extend into a luncheon, when you will have the opportunity to consolidate your learning.
- The final day of this COP will be facilitated by Sandra Herbst, who will share how leaders can support effective assessment practices in their schools.
