This one-day mini-conference comes from the growing interest of parents and caregivers to get back to the basics of play that support imagination, creativity, exploration and risk taking. Due to the completely open nature of including loose parts in environments for young children it supports adult’s role of conversation, socialization, imagination, physical development and many, many more.

We encourage to come come be part of the conversation around the following topics:

The Practice of Inspiring Imagination Partnered with the Art of Telling the Learning Story

You will learn from inspired preschooler communities that use loose parts as part of their learning strategies with young children. In addition, examples of how learning stories are used to share the new insights and skills that children develop during this type of play.

Using Loose Parts to Create Rich Play and Interactions

In research, the environment is many times referred to as the third teacher. You will be invited to share your insights and wisdom related to times that the environment has helped provide rich moments of learning in combination with an interaction between child and adult.

Building a Community of Practice – Connecting with other Professionals and Passionate Individuals

The afternoon will be self-selected conversation based on a variety of expressed interests from the group. Some of the session will include experiential playing with loose parts, gathering a collection of loose parts to be used as soon as you leave the session and other topics of interest based on community interest.
