Leaders need support that is specific to their context and work, as they implement quality instruction and assessment practices through a school or district. Whether you know a lot about competency-based instruction and assessment, or are just new to its principles and strategies, you are welcomed to attend this session. We will consider a framework of leadership that really does serve everyone’s learning!

It is clear that there are three actions that successful leaders employ:

  1. Leaders must take action and move beyond words to deeds.
  2. Leaders evaluate what they value and move beyond numbers to include triangulated evidence of learning.
  3. Leaders find ways to collect ongoing information and use frequent feedback loops.

In this learning session, we will:

  • Build on our understanding of competency-based pedagogy and assessment
  • Review immediately applicable strategies and examples of leaders at work
  • Explore practical ways to assist teachers and others to deepen their own understanding and practice in competency-based pedagogy and assessment
  • Think about ways to model competency-based instructional principles in our own leadership practice
  • Reflect on our learning and expertise, both on our own and with valued colleagues

The day will include video footage, accounts, and examples from classrooms and systems across Canada. You will leave with “next leadership steps” to support the very important work that you do!
