
Devin Bellerose is an accomplished First Nations Cultural facilitator. Originally from the community of Driftpile Cree Nation Devin began his career with Red Thunder, Canada’s elite native Dance Theatre group. As a grass dancer he has traveled as far as London, Italy, Austria and Yugoslavia. Presenting his dance styles in many renowned stages such as the National Arts Centre, the Lincoln Centre, and the Grand stand show at the Calgary stampede. As a story teller, Devin goes by the traditional name of Otacimow (Cree word for one who tells stories) and has visited many schools throughout western Canada sharing songs, dances, and traditional stories of his rich heritage. As a recording artist Otacimow released his native story telling album (The Possums tale) which today is used as a resource throughout many schools.
Devin Bellerose served as a tribal councilor for the Driftpile Cree Nation, located between High Prairie and Slave Lake. He is an active member of his community, encouraging the growth and development of governance and Self sustainability. In 2015 Devin coordinated the Sucker Creek Competition Pow wow drawing participants of different nations both locally and internationally. He has participated in the Joint Review Panel for the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project by giving oral submissions, as well as being involved in other government enhancement strategies such as constitution development and economic initiatives. Devin has presented to many northern Alberta schools on topics such as residential schools and their affects, the essence of the Indian Act and its relevance today, and eliminating the myth of reserve life. One of Devin’s true passions is inspiring youth to become successful leaders in todays society through his confidence building workshops. Combining his back ground as an addictions councilor, Medicine wheel facilitator, grief solutions specialist and life skills coach, Devin has developed a series of workshops which he calls Miyo Matisiwin (A good life). Although his career traditionally focused on First Nations, Devin envisions himself presenting his teachings to a more diverse audience. As an artist Devin believes anyone can manifest the life of their dreams, through the power of faith and imagination.
