S.I.V.A. (Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments) is a Canadian-created safety management course for educators, mental health professionals and residential programs supporting individuals with emotional / behavioural challenges and complex needs.
An alternative to crisis-focused programs, the SIVA philosophy and guiding principles inspire problem solving, decision-making and systematic changes in how programs establish and maintain safety. The SIVA model is further represented by clear and concise relationship-based strategies of support that participants are able to apply immediately upon completion of the training. During SIVA’s Two Day training participants receive instruction on the SIVA Philosophy, Guiding Principles and relationship-based approach as well as sample programming, workbook and certificate of completion. This Two Day SIVA training is a prerequisite for the SIVA Train the Trainer course.
The following are the core modules of the S.I.V.A. Training Program:
- Self-Care; identify vulnerabilities of compassion fatigue and build resilience through introspection and support systems
- Proactive Safety Management Evaluations
- Development of Supportive Relationships and W.I.S.E. Plans
- Development of Communication Skills that are goal-directed and build upon collaborative W.I.S.E. plans
- Emergency Safety Interventions for those situations that present an imminent risk of harm to self or others
- Post Interventions; restoring safety through environmental safety, debriefing and documentation
- Critical Incident Report Writing
