Just as health involves more than the absence of a physical illness, mental health involves more than just the absence of a mental illness. It is a component of one’s overall health and is shaped by individual, physical, environmental, social, cultural and socio-economic characteristics.

Positive mental health and well-being are issues of everyday life that impact families, schools, workplaces, institutions, neighborhoods and communities. To better understand positive mental health, there is value in looking at our underlying perceptions of mental health, how mental health promotion is currently conveyed and interpreted, and how mental health fits into our overall health spectrum.

In this session, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Become more familiar with principles, activities and approaches that incorporate aspects of positive mental health.
  • Discuss what factors have facilitated or hindered the incorporation of positive mental health into your work.

Target Audience

All Teachers, Administrators, District Leaders, Educational Assistants, Parents, Counselors, Social Workers, Therapists and everyone helping to promote mental wellness, social-emotional learning and healthy relationships in children.
