Corrie Ziegler has been an educator for over 36 years and prior to joining Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium, she worked as a teacher, principal, supervisor and director with Edmonton Public Schools. She has led AISI projects, managed teams, and has facilitated numerous sessions on a broad spectrum of topics related to teaching and learning. Corrie believes in the power of collaboration and has coached numerous learning communities in working together to achieve high levels of engagement and learning for all students.

AllAlberta's Kindergarten to Grade 12 curriculum promotes development 8 competencies: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Managing Information, Creativity and Innovation, Communication, Collaboration, Cultural and Global Citizenship, and Personal Growth and Well-being. These 8 competencies are a streamlined expression of the 10 competencies in the Ministerial Order on Student Learning (#001/2013).
Evidence of competency development is contextualized by subject-area learning content. This session will focus on gathering evidence of competency development and will include professional dialogue around the following questions:
- Do educators need to assess competency development separately from learning outcomes?
- How can I provide students with feedback?
- What tools/strategies can I use?
- How can I engage students in their own assessment around competency development?
- Is there a place for summative assessment?
- How can I share evidence of student development of competencies?
