Come prepared to play math games that incorporate the use of cards, dice, multi-sided dice, number lines, fraction manipulatives and other easily found math manipulatives.
Concepts covered include:
- Understanding Place Value and Number Sense
- Fractions Decimals and Percent, Equivalency and Operations
- Basic Perimeter, Area and Volume of rectangular shapes and objects.
- Multi Digit Numbers and Operations including Order Of Operations
- Fact Fluency (Basic Facts) for Intervention and Remediation
- Analytical Thinking, Statistics, Data Organization and Management, Chance and Probability
- Math Journaling and Extending The Learning
Throughout the workshop, you will:
- Have opportunities to play the games,
- Learn how to easily differentiate the games and activities to meet the needs of all students in their class,
- Learn how to develop Math Journal Extensions,
- Learn how to maximize learning through Math Talk,
- How easy and effective it is Use Games for Assessment.
Student samples, game boards, ideas for whole class and small group instruction will be provided. Interspersed will be practical ideas for classroom organization and management to ensure effective implementation of Games As A Teaching Strategy. Ideas for developing weekly lesson plans and samples of plans will be shared. Participants will be able to implement what they learn the next day in their classrooms and schools.
