AllThe Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium (ERLC) is hosting a Community of Practice for assistant/vice principals and those aspiring to leadership positions, from October 2016 to March 2017. Participants will meet four times to engage in personal professional learning that includes school visits to view exemplary leadership in action, professional dialogue, networking, and reflection.
The goals of this project are to:
- Deepen understanding of/observe how the competencies outlined in Alberta Education’s draft School Leadership Standard are “lived” in today’s schools, within the context of ongoing change and limited resources.
- Engage in examining research related to the leadership competencies; connect research to your own practice; and reflect on implications for your work as leader in your school.
Details
- The series will begin with a half day orientation session on October 18, followed up with three half-day visits to Edmonton area schools (a combination of elementary, junior high and high schools).
- At each school, you will engage in dialogue/Q&A with the host assistant principal; tour key areas of the school; connect to the competencies in the draft School Leadership Standard; review current research; share artifacts, discuss/reflect on implications for your work as a leader.
- Each visit will highlight/focus on 1 - 2 of the leadership competencies outlined in the draft School Leadership Standard. You will have the opportunity to share your own experiences and strategies related to the competencies highlighted.
Please note that if you have attended the David Irvine session on October 7, 2016, you or your staff will be eligible to receive two complimentary registrations to any ERLC sessions valued at $50 per session.
