Great leadership cannot be reduced to technique, position or power. Great leadership comes from the strength of one’s authentic presence – the identity and integrity of the leader.

Alberta has earned an international reputation for excellence in education. This achievement does not happen by accident. It happens when you have great leadership. In order to respond to the ever-expanding responsibilities and expectations of principals in an increasingly complex, demanding educational environment, leaders in education must continually undertake leadership development.

For those who are committed to developing a stronger leadership presence and impact, this session will delve deeply into what it means to be a leader. Take this opportunity to step back and gain a new perspective on leadership in education from one of Canada’s most respected voices on leadership and organizational culture. Based on David Irvine’s best-selling book, The Authentic Leader: It’s About PRESENCE, Not Position, you will be inspired by a new view of who you are as a leader. Come prepared for a fresh vision of leadership for today’s changing, demanding world that supports Alberta’s Principal Quality Practice Guideline in promoting successful school leadership in Alberta.

Topics:

  1. Learn the difference between an administrator and a real leader, and the true source of leadership power — your authentic presence.
  2. Learn how to deepen and sustain a strong authentic presence in order to amplify the impact you have on your staff, students, and all who depend on you.
  3. Leave with a solid overview of the principles and practices for building an aligned, engaged educational culture.
  4. Learn what real staff engagement is and the keys of how to achieve it within yourself and those you serve.
  5. Discover how to assess, inspire and engender deep trust in your school community – the most important issue facing leaders today.
  6. Discover a renewed approach to fostering accountability in your school community that will transform fear, entitlement, and blame into ownership, commitment, and courage.

You will receive a copy of David Irvine’s best-selling book as part of this inspiring and motivational day.

NOTE:  For leaders who will be participating in the Principal or Assistant Principal Community of Practice, this day will serve as an excellent foundation to both of these series. It is not mandatory to attend this session in order to be a part of the Communities of Practice (COP), but throughout both COPs, we will make reference to David Irvine’s books/white papers.
