This full day hands-on workshop will focus on the following topics:

Making Connections for Early Learners and Struggling Learners

This session is aimed at students operating at a K/1 level and at struggling students. Games and story problems are used to create a context of meaning for learning the basic adding and subtracting facts. A focus on visualization and other strategies will be explored using ten-frames.

Valuing Diversity and Creativity through How Many Ways Activities and Problem Posing

This session is aimed at students operating at a 2/3 level. Strategies used to learn the basic facts will be linked to multidigit operations (+,-) and place value. Calendar time will be explored through a “How Many Ways” activity as way to encourage creativity and manage the diversity that exists in 21st century classrooms.

Assessment for learning will also be discussed.
