Learning Opportunities

How do students demonstrate competency in ‘Global and Cultural Understanding’ in a manner that is ethical and promotes social justice? What does ethical citizenship even mean? How do you move students from understanding complex local and global issues in the classroom, to taking practical, meaningful, and ethical action in their community? 

This two-part series is a unique opportunity for teachers across all subject disciplines to build a critical understanding of global citizenship, while acquiring knowledge, skills and tools to support the development of students’ competency in critical thinking and global and cultural understanding.  

Through exploring the theoretical aspects of global citizenship education, and examining practical strategies and resources for your classrooms, you will develop an informed and active role as global citizenship educators whose work will benefit your students and our society.

• Day 1:  In this workshop, you will build an understanding of global citizenship as an ethical perceptive and practice, while discovering practical strategies to infuse a global citizenship perspective throughout the curriculum.

• Day 2: In this workshop, you will learn how to build your school into a space for social justice, while exploring various resources, tools, and programs offered by Alberta community-based organizations which help youth take practical action.
