Jane Atkins has been involved in education since 1976, when she began working with the Special Education program in the schools in Slave Lake. To gain a better understanding of the FNMI students and their culture, so that she could meet their educational needs, she took many opportunities to learn from the First Nations communities while living in Slave Lake. The appreciation of their culture has remained important in her teaching.
Jane has also been involved in teaching FSL and French Immersion since moving to the Sundre area in 1990. At present she is semi-retired, working part-time as the French Immersion coordinator for CESD.
