What would you learn from this learning opportunity?

  • Research suggests that the number of vulnerable students in classrooms are increasing. Teachers are called upon to build and use a toolbox of strategies and methods to support students with complex needs and diagnosis. The daily struggles these vulnerable students encounter lead to disengagement, poor choices, social pressures and exclusion from school and community.
  • You will learn about brain development, the effects of trauma and teratogens on the developing brain.
  • You will learn about the prevalence in the classroom of students encountering affects of trauma or teratogens.
  • You will participate in identifying strategies to improve student outcomes based on brain development.
  • You will explore effective, best practice strategies to support success for all students through a brain-based lens.

It is important you have concrete “take aways” from this learning opportunity.  What do you see that looking like?

  • You will leave the session with an understanding of brain development, the effects of trauma, violence and teratogens on a developing brain and how these affect learning in the classroom.
  • You will receive a list of resources and tools based on best practices that you can access to assist you in the classroom with engaging and teaching your students. (mindfulness, transformative relationships, 8-magic keys, safe – predictable learning environments)
