Tim Coates has been involved in education in a variety of roles since 1963 (when he entered grade one). Tim received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Province of Alberta in 1993 and taught for 12 years before being seconded to Alberta Education in 1994. While at Alberta Education Tim served as the Examination Manager of the Social Studies 33 and 30 Diploma Examination, and then Director of the Diploma Examination Program until 2014. Tim was the Coordinator of the Classroom Assessment Capacity Project.
Tim’s educational interests and expertise are in all matters regarding the relationship among assessment, programs of studies, and instruction. His special interest is working with teachers and school authorities on how to maximize the quality of assessment instruments, how to minimize assessment error, and how to establish the most appropriate means to report assessment results to multiple assessment “audiences.”
