AllWe have created multiple opportunities for you to visit schools during the 2015-2016 school year in Edmonton and surrounding areas who have begun implementing the Career and Technology Foundations Programs of Study.
You will have the opportunity to see aspects of their programs in operation and hear about the journey the school has been on. There will be time for questions with school staff, opportunities to network with others and time to begin planning for the implementation in your own school.
Dr. Donald Massey School is in the first year of a newly created option program for students in grades 5 - 9. Based on their own comfort level, teachers offer workshops that are relevant to CTF outcomes and career strands to students in mixed grade groupings. Workshops are approximately 8 weeks long. Staff use electronic portfolios, My Blueprint, for students to self-assess and self-reflect on their progress and achievement.
Prior to each round of 3 workshops, students have the opportunity to investigate the different workshops offered by talking to the teachers/staff members involved. They choose their workshops online. After each round, students host a gallery walk to make their learning explicit to others.
