The use of inquiry/project-based learning approach is becoming increasingly more evident in schools across the region.  The approach aligns with the intent of the Ministerial Order on Student Learning (An Order to adopt or approve goals and standards applicable to the provision of education in Alberta). How can you, as an instructional leader, effectively support your teachers as they implement projects in their classrooms?

This one day session will begin by deepening your knowledge and understanding of the key elements of project based learning; the importance of aligning projects to Alberta’s Programs of Study; and the effective use of formative and summative assessment practices throughout the duration of the project.

This session will address questions such as:

  • What is project based learning and how is it different from "projects"?
  • How can we ensure the time spent on projects is aligned to Alberta's Programs of Study?
  • How can my teachers incorporate effective formative and summative assessments into the project?
  • How can I, as the instructional leader in the school, provide effective support to my teachers as they implement their projects?

You will be engaged in a collaborative process of examining the key elements of project based learning in conjunction with how to effectively provide support to teachers, that will ultimately result in deep student learning. Be prepared to partake in professional dialogue and collaborative work with new colleagues.
