Sherri Johnston has been a teacher for over 20 years. She has her M.Ed. in Elementary Literacy and is passionate about reading. She served as a district literacy consultant in Elk Island Public Schools for ten years where she supported both English and French Language Arts teachers. Sherri has taught all subjects, Grades 4 – 9, including three years as a teacher-librarian. She is currently on secondment with the Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium and is pleased to support K-12 Literacy.

AllHow can you combine the best of writing approaches such as 6+1 Writing Traits and Empowering Writers to create an effective writing workshop model? This session will look at classroom routines, use of mentor texts, guided support to independence, craft lessons and strategies, writing planners, assessment, creating a writer-friendly environment, how to maximize engagement and discuss both narrative and informational writing.
Teachers are invited to become active participants in learning tasks as well as share practices that have worked well in their classrooms. Bring your questions, your favourite pen and your 6 Trait/Empowering Writers teacher resources to plan a lesson!
