What are competencies? Why focus on competencies? What is the Ministerial Order on Student Learning? Is there an expectation from Alberta Education that I teach/support the development of competencies presented in the Ministerial Order on Student Learning? Yes!!!

Do some of these questions sound familiar to you?

  • How can I prepare to teach with competencies in mind?
  • How do I support learning in a competency-based classroom?
  • In what ways might I engage learners in their own assessment?
  • What strategies can I use so that I can increase my students’ ability to self-regulate and be metacognitive?
  • How can I best communicate evidence of my students’ learning in relation to competencies?

If you do, please join us for this one-day session where we will explore the opportunities and challenges that competency-based education presents to us as educators.

Through the use of video clips, accounts, and practical and doable samples, we will uncover strategies that can help our students and ourselves to better understand what is expected and to more fully represent learning in an environment of curricular re-design.

Come prepared to talk, share ideas, and reflect!
