Siobhan Murphy is a teacher with Greater St. Albert Catholic Regional Division. She is on secondment at the Edmonton Regional Learning Consortium, working primarily in the area of literacy. Her past teaching experience includes teaching at the elementary and junior high levels. Siobhan completed her Master's degree in education at the University of Alberta focusing her research project on assessment for learning best practices, in particular how rubrics can improve student writing.

K-3, 4-6This session will provide specific ideas on how to explicitly model, prompt and reinforce effective strategic actions in reading. Based on your observations of student reading behaviors, you can use these tools to strengthen and empower developing readers as they build their literacy processing systems.
In addition, key reading strategies will be shared that can be used with students to promote thinking and deepen comprehension when reading.
Research and ideas shared in this session are derived from Fountas and Pinnell, Goodvis and Harvey, Keene and Zimmermann, and Jan Richardson.

Educational Assistants and Teacher Aides for Grades 1-6
