Meaningful, purposeful communication is at the heart of learning to read and write. Students with significant disabilities who learn that they can use reading and writing to investigate areas of interest, share their ideas, thoughts and feelings, or interact with new people will understand that the primary purpose of literacy is communication.

This learning opportunity will provide information and practical strategies to address the literacy learning and communication needs of students with significant cognitive disabilities. The emphasis will be on approaches that support emergent and early conventional literacy in meaningful reading and writing contexts.

Day Two - January 18, 2016
