AllReading is more than figuring out unknown words. Preschoolers reading with their parents are using higher level thinking skills like inferring, making connections, and asking questions. Our striving readers can be taught to notice and talk about their use of these same thinking skills.
Not sure how to teach and prompt for thinking skills with our readers who struggle? Join us for this interactive workshop as we demystify what readers do to make sense of what they read.
We’ll model how you can best support the reading work done in the classroom with higher level questioning and prompting for readers at a variety of ages and reading levels. Not sure if your particular student is visualizing or monitoring for understanding? We’ll break down a few simple comprehension strategies so you can better target individual student needs.
This workshop will draw upon the work of Zimmerman & Hutchins, Oczkus, Schwartz & Bone, Raphael, and Fountas & Pinnell.
Target Audience
Educational Assistants working with Regular and Special Education students in Grades 1-12
