Laurie Beggs has been a K-9 teacher, a Literacy Coordinator, a Reading Recovery teacher, a Principal and a Supervisor of Language Arts, Literacy, and Leadership Development with Edmonton Public Schools. As a key leader through several AISI projects, Laurie has presented professional learning sessions locally and internationally. A passion for the language arts lies at the core of her learning and teaching. She believes that supporting students and teachers build passion, strength and strategies continues to be a key to being literate and engaged.

AllSLAs will enter year 2 of a pilot for grade 3 students across the province in September 2015. Following the assessment, teachers will receive group and individual reports designed to assist with planning for future learning. Results will reflect student performance in the areas of literacy and numeracy.
To best support participant learning, the morning of this session is designed to focus on the construction, delivery, philosophy and content of SLAs. The afternoon will focus on the reports, the interpretation of the information and how the information can be used to support ongoing planning for teaching and learning.
In this session, the following topics will be presented:
- SLA Overview
- Building an Understanding of Performance Assessment
- Processing – Strategies for Successful Implementation, e.g. team marking
- Next steps – developing a school or jurisdiction plan
