AllThis learning opportunity will provide you, as an administrator, with an overview of the elements of an effective learner-centered classroom, allowing you to better identify these elements as they appear in classrooms in your school. With an understanding of what to "look for” (through the development of observation checklists, exemplars, and/or other data gathering tools, you will then be able to provide effective feedback to your staff regarding the impact that learner centred teaching has on student learning.
We will examine design elements that will enhance students' skill development in some of the following skill areas:
- Learning how to learn on their own.
- Developing the communication skills needed to collaborate with others.
- Taking more control for their own learning.
- Teaching others.
- Making presentations.
- Developing lifelong learning skills.
- Developing their metacognitive skills—knowing what they know, don’t know or misunderstand.
