Deb Rougeau-Bell has been an elementary school teacher, assistant principal and consultant. Both as a principal and mentoring specialist for Rocky View Schools, she has worked with schools in leading the transformation to a culture of environmental stewardship and sustainability. As a contractor for the Alberta Council for Environmental Education (ACEE), she has been involved with creating the Curriculum for a Sustainable Future to increase students' environmental and energy literacy.

K-3, 4-6, 7-9Dr. David Orr states, "Given the vulnerable state of our natural world, we need a different approach to education"...one that not only develops cross-curricular competencies and knowledgeable students, but also, environmentally and socially conscious citizens. What knowledge and skills do Alberta students need to create a sustainable future? What should they learn about energy and the environment?
The workshop will explore:
- designing authentic knowledge building opportunities
- four dimensions of environmental inquiry - inquiry learning, experiential learning in nature, integrated learning and stewardship
- authentic teacher and student learning stories to help understand "what learning looks like"
- spending time outdoors engaged in experiential learning
