Learning a programming language not only prepares students for their future, but also involves the development of computational thinking, literacy, and numeracy skills that they can apply to all subject areas. Students are using coding to create digital stories and games related to subject areas, control robots and other hardware, and many other uses in schools. Over a dozen countries including the UK and Finland have or plan to have coding as part of their national curricula, and post-secondary institutions are beginning to allow proficiency in coding to count as a second language entrance option.

Learning to code has never been easier and more fun, and in this session, you will get first-hand experience exploring three introductory programming languages – Scratch (developed by MIT), Blockly (developed by Google), and TurtleArt (art-math coding program). No experience whatsoever is required – come and have fun learning the logic behind making a computer program!
