A successful Learning Commons is a subtly energizing environment where students can engage in a diverse array of learning activities. This interactive one day workshop will engage you in exploring the newly approved Alberta Education Learning Commons Policy which became effective in September 2014. We will explore questions such as:

  1. What is a Learning Commons and how might this innovative physical and/or virtual learning environment impact student learning?
  2. What intrigues you about reinventing your school library into a learning commons?
  3. What do you need to know in order to transform a school library into a Learning Commons?
  4. What would best learning look like in your learning commons? For students? For teachers?
  5. Who needs to be part of your Learning Commons Design team?
  6. How does this policy align with and support the Learning and Technology Policy Framework and other Alberta Education initiatives?

There will be time to collaboratively explore these and other questions and to begin planning for the transformation of your school library to reflect a learning commons philosophy to support and enrich student learning.
