A project-based/inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning is becoming increasingly more evident in schools across the region. As an instructional leader in your school, your leadership and support to teachers utilizing a project-based approach is critical to both teacher and student success. Your knowledge and understanding of the key elements of project based learning, the importance of aligning projects to Alberta’s Programs of Study, as well as to the use of effective formative and summative assessment practices, will assist you in supporting your teachers and will ultimately maximize student learning.

This session will address questions such as:

  • How do we ensure teachers are engaging students in project based learning and not end of unit “projects”?
  • How can we ensure the time spent on projects is aligned to the Programs of Study?
  • What should be assessed in project-based learning?
  • How can a teacher incorporate effective formative and summative assessments into the project?
  • How can I, as the instructional leader in the school, provide effective support to my teachers in this area?

Join us in this full day session to refine your instructional leadership skills in supporting project-based learning. We will engage in you a collaborative process of examining a sample project, from beginning to end to identify how you can effectively provide support to your teachers, and that will ultimately result in deep student learning.  Be prepared to partake in professional dialogue and collaborative work with new colleagues.
