A project based approach to teaching and learning is becoming increasingly more evident in schools across the region. As teachers become more familiar with this approach, questions emerge, especially in the area of planning with our Alberta programs of study; specifically planning formative and summative assessment:

  • How do I know my students are learning what I want them to learn
  • What do I assess?
  • How do I provide formative assessment?
  • How do I involve students in the assessment process?
  • How do I assess group work?
  • How do I gather and record evidence of learning?
  • How do I use that evidence to give a "mark" to each student at the end of the project?

Research has shown that effective planning and assessment practices results in deep learning. Join us in this full day session to refine your planning and assessment practices in the area of project based learning. We ask that you bring a project that you have recently completed, are currently working on with your students, or are just starting to develop. We will engage in you a process of examining your project, from beginning to end, to identify the learner outcomes and incorporate both formative and summative assessment opportunities that will result in deep student learning.
