In the early years classroom, the SMART Board and SMART Notebook Software can help foster student-centred learning and gives students opportunities to become engaged thinkers who use technology to learn, innovate, communicate and discover.

In this hands-on session you will discover how to integrate your SMART Board into your daily routine to develop early literacy and numeracy skills in the K-3 classroom using SMART tools, the Gallery and Lesson Activity Toolkit, as well as online resources.  Various strategies for using your SMART Board, such as a small-group learning center, will be discussed.  Come prepared with ideas and/or resources and you’ll have the opportunity to create and/or adapt a learning resource for your own classroom.

In this learning opportunity you will:

  • explore how to use your SMART Board for daily attendance, calendar and morning math activities.
  • learn how to create links to online resources and other files.
  • learn how to embed sound and video files in Notebook Software to engage language learning.
  • use the Notebook Gallery and Lesson Activity Toolkit to create interactive learning resources for your classroom context.
  • collaborate with other educators to share ideas for using your SMART board.
  • create a short learning resource to use in your class.

A working knowledge of SMART Notebook Software is recommended.
