Assessment in the service of learning allows all of us – students, teachers, and leaders – the opportunity to be deeply engaged in the learning process.  Learners of all ages can:

  • provide feedback to themselves or others
  • collect evidence to prove that they have learned
  • identify next steps in their learning

In order to be able to do this, learners must deeply understand what quality and proficiency is.  This lies at the heart of quality classroom-based assessment.

In this learning opportunity, we will explore these ideas in relation to literacy and numeracy development, with a focus on Alberta’s ten cross-curricular competencies. Through the use of video clips, accounts, and samples, we will uncover more strategies that can help our students to better understand what is expected of them – whether they are 5 years or age or 17 years of age.

Come prepared to talk, share ideas, and reflect!
